Literature review worklog VII: IPU identified

IPU is the acronym I came up with to identify three causes for the problems I talked about last week. They stand for inter-disciplinary, public good and uncertainty.

(I wasn't so into acronym before moving to Australia. But here it seems to be the current fashion, if not all time fashion of this surburned country. People use them at all occasions and don't necessarily bother to tell you what they represent. In the States people use acronyms when they come up with a smart pun, e.g. GUMBO, but here nobody bothered to go that far and they even don't care about whether the acronym could be pronounced. Exceptions do exist, however, the project I am working on is ERAT (Enhanced Risk Analysis Tool) and there is also an ABARE. )

It seems to me these three are the characteristics of invasive species issues (or any environmental issues really). Of course now I have to try to explain why they caused the partial analysis, lack of non-market/indirect values and ex ante studies problems. I am aware the relationships between causes and problems are not one-to-one, e.g. lack of non-market values could also be partially explained by the interdisciplinary nature but my hypothesis is that the public good nature has a bit more explanatory power in this regard. I have to start with explaining one-to-one relationship after all.
