Air conditioning service provided by forest canopy

An article on the most recent issue of Nature found trees managed to keep their leave temperature constant, at least to a certain point. The implication of this?

"The fact that vegetation canopy rather than leaf morphology dominates temperature control in the forests sampled by Helliker and Richter suggests the need for greater emphasis on understanding how the canopy responds to climate change, and to global warming in particular (from a commenting article)."
