Whale more valuable alive than dead

A report by International Fund for Animal Welfare (IFAW), Global Ocean, and the Whales and Dolphin Conservation Society (WDCS), including both market and non-market (Contingent Valuation) values of whale watching in Latin America.

A whale story from Vermont: I always wondered why there is a whale sculpture along highway I-89 close to Burlington (here is a picture). It turns out once upon a time whales were in VT!

Update: There happened to be a blog on Freakonomics on whaling by Nathan Myhrvold . Here are a couple quotes:

"A vote against whaling in Iceland would be a blue vote in an overwhelmingly red state."

" Whaling is really about pride, not economics."
