An interesting Nature study showed "a geographical map of Europe arises naturally as an efficient two-dimensional summary of genetic variation in Europeans". The result makes intuitive sense but still nobody would think it was so clear.
The method Principal component analysis (PCA), often used to reduce multidimensional data sets to lower dimensions for analysis, is particular of interest.
