An interesting study in Science tested "the end of history illusion" and found regardless of age, people all believed they had changed a lot in the past yet would change relatively little in the future. The authors also made a couple of hypotheses regarding the causes of such an illusion. First, people like to think they are perfect now and do not want to change in future. Second, people have difficulty in imagining future change about themselves.
The question is then, what can we do to help people in overcoming this illusion when making decisions about uncertain future??
