Amazing recovery

"Diversity and resilience" jumped into my mind after reading this news--some 50 years after an atomic blast shook the Pacific atoll of Bikini, the corals are flourishing again!

One hypothesis of Biodiversity-Ecosystem functioning research is that higher diversity provides more resilience. But I don't think we have many empirical support for it yet, partially because resilience is something difficult to measure. Back in Gund we planned to explore the relationship between diversity and resilience, from the perspective of ecosystem services of course, but we gave up in the end. Of course the meaning of resilience is beyond ecosystem service. It is a big part of ecosystem health and adaptive management really.
