Complexities in predicting impacts of environmental change
A paper on the recent Science explores three layers of complexities: 1) behavioral response: the change in a species' population growth rate in response to an environmental disturbance depends on how the species interacts ecologically with other species in the ecosystem, 2) evolutionary response: species may evolve tolerance to the environmental change, and 3) ecological and evolutionary complexities might interact.
